A 40-year-old Orange County Jail inmate, who was receiving treatment for hepatitis, was found dead in a one-person cell Wednesday, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The body of Jimmy Munos Martinez of Santa Ana was found about 4:30 a.m. in the medical housing area of the Inmate Reception Center in Santa Ana, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Paddock.
Martinez was arrested June 9 by Santa Ana police on suspicion of possession of stolen property, Paddock said.
The inmate also had a long history of drug use, Paddock said.
The cause of death is under routine investigation by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department and by the district attorney’s office, Paddock said.
Paddock said it may take five weeks to determine the exact cause of death with toxicological tests.
