A 19-year-old man was killed and his brother was wounded in one of several gang-related drive-by shootings in the city in the first part of the weekend.
The man, a suspected gang member, and his 24-year-old brother were standing near the 1600 block of East 68th Street early Saturday morning when they were hit by bullets from a passing car, police said. They were taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where the younger man died. His brother was listed in satisfactory condition with a gunshot wound to the foot. The brothers’ names were not released.
A continuing dispute over drug-dealing territory apparently led to the drive-by shooting of another suspected gang member in South-Central Los Angeles, said Officer Ben Warren.
The passengers of a passing car shot into a gathering of about six people outside an apartment near 106th Street and Central Avenue about 2:10 a.m. Saturday. One man who was shot in the foot was treated by paramedics at the scene after refusing to be hospitalized.
Another man was wounded in the leg in a separate drive-by shooting in Wilmington, police said.
Two people, including a bystander, were wounded Friday night in a shooting at a restaurant on Crenshaw Boulevard in South-Central Los Angeles. Police said a man involved in a pushing match with another customer fired several shots, wounding the customer and a bystander. The two victims were taken to hospitals in stable condition. The identities of the victims were not released.
