NBC Is MVP in Ratings Game

With a tip of the cap to baseball’s All-Star Game and a prime-time lineup of its weekly all-star series, NBC slid home first in the A. C. Nielsen rankings for the 56th consecutive week. Nearly 1.8 million fewer viewers caught last week’s ball game compared to the 1988 broadcast on ABC according to figures released Tuesday. Nevertheless, the All-Star telecast scored ahead of Top 10 regulars “Roseanne,” “Cheers,” et al. The full list of ratings is on Page 8.
* The 20th anniversary of man’s lunar landing attracted viewers to CBS and its two-hour retrospective anchored by Dan Rather and Charles Kuralt. The program was a distant second to NBC’s Thursday night shows, but it bested “Thursday Night Baseball” on ABC.
