Countywide : Land Transfer to Help Plans for Regional Park

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday accepted 114 acres at Upper Newport Bay from the Irvine Co. to complete a regional park on the area’s scenic bluffs overlooking an ecological reserve.
The county already owns about 16 acres on the bay along Jamboree Road that will connect with the 114 acres received Tuesday. The new acquisition extends west from Jamboree Road and then along the north side of the bay. Both properties also join the 700-acre state ecological reserve operated by the California Department of Fish and Game.
With the dedication, the county hopes to begin plans for a regional park that could include a nature museum, a network of hiking trails and platforms at strategic locations for viewing the unique wildlife of the Upper Newport Bay.
