Deputy Mayor Won’t Seek Reelection

Ventura Deputy Mayor Bill Crew announced this week that he has decided not to seek reelection to the City Council in November for a combination of business and personal reasons.
The unexpected announcement by Crew, 46, means that two of the four council seats to be contested this year will not be filled by incumbents. Councilman John Sullard announced earlier that he will also not seek reelection.
In disclosing his decision, Crew, who owns nine Burger King restaurants in Ventura County and the San Joaquin Valley, said his council work has been taking up to 20 hours a week, more than he anticipated.
“I decided in May when I started thinking about putting my reelection campaign together that there are too many other things demanding my attention,” Crew said.
He said family interests were another factor in his decision. Crew, who is chairman of First National Bank of Ventura, has three children.
Candidates for Ventura City Council have until Aug. 17 to file nominating papers.
