Trapped Miner Eats Own Shirt to Survive

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Workers rescued a copper miner who survived by eating his shirt while trapped 12 days in a tunnel by a mudslide, a mining company said.
Atlas Consolidated Mining & Development Corp. said in a statement that Roberto Lingao-Lingao was rescued Friday. He survived by eating his shirt a little at a time and sleeping to conserve energy as fellow miners inched their way 1,473 feet through mud and other debris to reach him, the statement said.
