Relph Leads Tustin Past Laguna Hills in Baseball

Ryan Relph went four for five with two runs batted in and two runs scored to lead Tustin High School to a 16-1 victory Laguna Hills in a Irvine Baseball Assn. and Times Orange County Hardball Tournament’s game Saturday at UC Irvine.
Winning pitcher Dan Baker and Ken Strack combined on a two-hitter and struck out 10.
In an earlier game, Capistrano Valley defeated El Toro, 12-2. Capistrano Valley scored three in the first inning, highlighted by Scott Patton’s 380-foot, two-run homer over the left field wall. Patton was two for three with three RBIs and a run scored.
With two on and two outs in the second inning, Scott Petke hit a three-run double to highlight a four-run inning that put Capistrano Valley ahead 7-2. Petke was two for three with three RBIs.
In another game, J.P. Rizzo was the winning pitcher and hit a solo home run in the second inning to lead Huntington Beach to a 9-3 victory over Estancia. Huntington Beach scored five runs on four hits and three errors in the second inning. Estancia started the game with only eight players, borrowing a Huntington Beach player to play right field until a late player showed up.
In the 10 a.m. game, Corona del Mar defeated Canyon, 9-1, with five runs on four hits in top of the second inning and three runs in the seventh.
Today, Capistrano Valley plays Huntington Beach at 10 a.m., Corona del Mar plays Tustin at 1 p.m., Irvine plays University at 4 p.m. and Canyon will play Laguna Hills at 7 p.m..
