Three people escaped unharmed Monday morning from a residential fire that caused an estimated $50,000 damage, authorities said.
More than two dozen firefighters battled the blaze in the 800 block of North Clementine Street, which was reported at 10:10 a.m., and held fire damage to the attic and a room addition. There was, however, water damage to much of the home, fire officials said.
A neighbor said she heard a “pop” and alerted a resident, Pauline Peterson, who ran to the rear of the home and woke up her goddaughter.
Fire officials said that, in addition to Peterson and the child, another unidentified adult was assisted at the scene by Red Cross workers.
Cause of the blaze remained under investigation Monday.
