TOKYO — The United States collected 18 hits, including a two-run home run by Widd Workman, and trounced South Korea 11-2 today, the second day of the World Youth Baseball Championships.
Venezuela beat Taiwan 4-3, China whipped Brazil 12-6 and Japan blanked Canada 8-0 in other games.
Workman, from Gilbert High School in Arizona, homered in the fourth inning and singled home one of four U.S. runs in a sixth-inning rally in the Americans’ first game in the tournament. Korea is 1-1.
Players aged 13 to 15 are competing in the eight-nation round-robin tournament.
