Scaling Mt. McKinley’s Not the Feet It Once Was

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — North America’s highest mountain is a bit smaller than everyone thought, according to a preliminary analysis reported Friday of data gathered by a team of scientists and surveyors who spent a month on the massive white hulk in Alaska.
Mt. McKinley’s 20,320-foot height may get 14 feet lopped off the top if the National Geodetic Survey confirms the analysis of new measurement data collected by the climbing team, said Steve Jones, manager of the Alaska office of GEONEX ITEC Inc..
