U.S. Issues Travel Advisory for Kenya

WASHINGTON — The State Department has issued a travel advisory for Americans visiting Kenya to take precautions to avoid attacks that resulted in the killing last week of a Connecticut woman while on safari.

The department issued its warning late Friday, advising American tourists to travel in groups with a guide from a reputable safari firm or a game ranger while visiting the nation’s wildlife sanctuaries.

Marie Esther Ferraro of Bethany, Conn., was killed and Allen Sullivan of Fairfield, Conn., was slightly wounded Thursday when attacked--reportedly by wildlife poachers--while on a safari tour with a group of 27 other American tourists in Tsavo West Park.

Another spokeswoman said the travel advisory was “partially” related to the incident Thursday but noted a number of attacks on tourists had been reported.
