A Val Verde man opened fire from a stopped car Tuesday and fatally shot his brother-in-law, who was in a parked pickup truck next to the car, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Arnulfo Herrera, 50, of Val Verde died at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia several hours after the 5 p.m. shooting, Sgt. Jim Curtis said. Herrera was shot three times in the upper body, Curtis said.
Authorities were searching for Juan Jose Sanchez Luviano, 23, the suspected gunman. Sanchez is believed to have fired at least five rounds at the pickup truck parked at San Martinez Road and Concorse Drive, authorities said.
Witnesses told authorities that Sanchez walked across the street to the Val Verde General Store, where he collapsed. Curtis said the shooting grew out of an unspecified family dispute.
