Alatorre Seeks Details on Trash-Energy Plans

Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre introduced a motion Tuesday opposing a proposed waste-to-energy incinerator in Glendale until all environmental reviews have been undertaken and the proposal has been examined in detail.
“We need to be very careful about adopting strategies that may carry enormous environmental and health risks,” Alatorre said.
In response to Alatorre, Glendale Councilman Carl Raggio, who proposed the incinerator project last week, said:
“It’s none of Alatorre’s business, and I resent being big-brothered by Los Angeles. They have enough garbage disposal problems of their own and should be looking for alternatives instead of interfering with what other cities are doing.” Alatorre’s motion was referred to the Los Angeles City Council’s Intergovernmental Relations committee.
