The second California State Games, an Olympic-style event for amateur athletes, gets under way today at four sites around the city.
Some 1,400 athletes will compete in 14 sports today through Sunday. Today’s events are cycling (9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Velodrome) and tennis (Grossmont College, Point Loma Nazarene College and San Diego State at various times).
Other events include: archery, basketball, diving, gymnastics, judo, roller skating, soccer, team handball, track and field, water polo and wrestling.
