A 79-year-old Hemet man died of an apparent heart attack he suffered Thursday while driving with his wife on the Costa Mesa Freeway in Orange, authorities said.
Willard F. Burch lost control of his car while northbound on the freeway, north of Chapman Avenue. His car careened across the car-pool lane, hitting the center divider. Burch’s vehicle then was hit from behind by a car driven by a 54-year-old Corona man traveling in the car-pool lane, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Burch died shortly after the 2:45 p.m. accident.
