A 38-year-old Tustin man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and drunk driving in an accident in Tustin that killed one woman and critically injured two others, police said Monday.
Stephen Wayne Drysdale was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a short distance from the intersection of El Camino Real and Main Street, where police said his older-model Chevrolet hit a 1988 Nissan.
Maria Reygosa, 48, of Santa Ana, a passenger in the Nissan, was killed instantly, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Enriqueta Alvarez, 17, the driver of the Nissan, and Irma Alvarez, who listed her age only as “over 40,” both of Santa Ana, were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, Tustin police said.
Enriqueta Alvarez was in critical condition with severe internal injuries; Irma Alvarez was listed in fair condition Monday, according to a hospital spokesman.
Police said that Drysdale’s car crashed into a curb about 100 yards from the scene and that he ran away. Police staked out the area and arrested him on the street several minutes later.
