A retired horse trainer was shot to death and his wife was wounded Sunday night after their son-in-law opened fire on the couple in their Imperial Beach home, authorities said.
Robert (Buddy) Robinson, 68, of the 900 block of Elm Avenue was killed after Ralph Kelly Hawthorne, 35, entered Robinson’s living room at 5:20 p.m. and opened fire with a semiautomatic pistol, sheriff’s deputies said.
Hawthorne reportedly fled, but turned himself in early Monday at County Jail in El Cajon, where he is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Authorities later found a pistol and Hawthorne’s truck at an acquaintance’s apartment in El Cajon.
Jimmie Robinson, age 63, was shot in the torso and taken to UCSD Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition.
