Police were searching Monday for a gunman who shot one man to death and wounded a 3-year-old girl at a Los Angeles gas station.
Witnesses said the shooting occurred Sunday near the corner of Main Street and Imperial Highway when the assailant opened fire on a customer after a brief argument.
Dwayne Reed, 30, of Los Angeles was shot several times and died at the scene.
A woman buying cigarettes at the gas station when the gunfire erupted did not realize until she arrived home that her daughter had been hit by a bullet.
Silkia Rosario apparently thought her child was asleep when they drove away from the shooting scene. While removing the infant from the car, police said, the mother noticed that she was unconscious from a gunshot wound.
The girl was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she was reported in stable condition Monday evening, police said.
The gunman, whom witnesses described as 25 to 29 years old, was seen driving away from the shooting with an unidentified companion.
