A light aircraft apparently carrying U.S. and Canadian tourists crashed in dense forest in southwest New Zealand, killing all 10 people on board, police said. The nine passengers were believed to be mostly from the United States and Canada, a police spokesman said, but he refused to give further details. The twin-engine Britten Norman Islander smashed into a mountainside near Mt. Aspiring. Wreckage from the crash was sighted by a helicopter searching for the overdue flight. The Royal New Zealand Air Force flew in rescue teams, which began trekking through thick forest to the crash site.
