Car Hits Preschool Van; Boy, 7, Badly Hurt
- Share via
A car that ran a red light in Garden Grove at 40 m.p.h. broadsided a van carrying a teacher and eight pupils from a local preschool Monday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The impact raised the 10-passenger van up on two wheels and nearly rolled it over, yet only one of the pupils was seriously injured, officers said. The 7-year-old boy, Russell Lewis of Garden Grove, son of the preschool’s administrator, suffered multiple injuries.
All of the pupils in the Sonshine Preschool van wore seat belts, the CHP said.
The occupants of the car, Jung Sook Park, 30, of Norwalk, and her two daughters, Angie, 5, and Anni, 4, were hospitalized at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Park said the brakes on her car failed. The CHP said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
