ATLANTA — Former President Jimmy Carter said today that he has accepted an invitation from the Nicaraguan government to assemble and lead an international delegation there to monitor elections in February.
In a letter to Carter released today, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said: “We encourage you to come to Nicaragua as many times as you can during the electoral process, to observe all aspects of the process, and to meet with the members of the Supreme Electoral Council, the political parties and the government. You will have unrestricted access to all aspects of the process.”
