Chinese peasants have clashed in more than 800 battles over resource-rich land since 1980, the official China Daily reported. Long, violent feuds over valuable land has caused “tens of thousands” of casualties, the report said. Most of the battles were in China’s sparsely inhabited western provinces, where only provisional boundaries have been drawn to establish rights over forest and mineral resources, it added.
