A prominent Mexican suspected of being a major drug trafficker was flown to Los Angeles from Texas today and was held as a material witness in the 1985 kidnap-murder of U.S. narcotics agent Enrique Camarena Salazar.
Ruben Zuno Arce, 59, the brother-in-law of former Mexican President Luis Echeverria Alvarez, traveled in the custody of U.S. marshals to Los Angeles, a spokesman at the U.S. marshal’s office said.
Zuno, who faces no charges and denies allegations of drug trafficking, was arrested by Immigration and Naturalization Service agents in San Antonio last week and held as a “possible” drug trafficker.
