Newport Beach surgeon Forest Grunigen and his wife, Dolores, have pledged $75,000 toward three research programs at UC Irvine College of Medicine.
The money will support programs in biochemistry, reproductive biology and rehabilitative medicine, a university spokesman said.
Grunigen, who is retired from practicing surgery, is a former appointee to the California Board of Medical Examiners and a member of the board of directors at American Biotechnology Corp., a research and development firm based in Irvine.
He received his medical degree from the California College of Medicine in 1962 and became an alumnus of the UCI College of Medicine when the university bought the medical school in 1967.
