A gang member and a woman were shot dead from a passing car and a teen-ager was fatally shot on a sidewalk early today during a spate of gang attacks, authorities said.
A 17-year-old Compton youth was shot and killed at Santa Fe Avenue and Tucker Street about 1 a.m. by a driver who stopped his car and questioned the boy, Compton Police Sgt. John Garrett said. The gunman got back into the car and sped away, Garrett said. The teen-ager died at the scene. His name was withheld.
“The shooting is being treated as gang-related because of the statements made by the suspect,” Garrett said.
In South-Central Los Angeles, a gang member and a young woman were killed in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night.
Gerald Morris, 19, and Rachel Hawthorne, 18, were standing in a driveway on East 82nd Street when a car drove past about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Detective Paul Mize said. Several gunshots were fired from inside the vehicle, which sped from the scene, Mize said.
Morris was described as a gang member, and the gunmen were believed to be members of a rival gang, Mize said. No arrests had been made in the double slaying.
