THE SIDELINES : Easy Goer Favored 1-5 in Travers

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Easy Goer was made the 1-5 early favorite when six horses were entered today for Saturday’s $1-million Travers for 3-year-olds at Saratoga.
Easy Goer, winner of the Belmont Stakes and most recently the Whitney at Saratoga, will start from the No. 5 post position under his regular rider, Pat Day.
Second favorite for the race was Clever Trevor at 5-1, starting from the second post position under Don Pettinger.
The field, in position position order with jockeys: Shy Tom, Jose Santos; Clever Trevor; Doc’s Leader, Bill Fox; Le Voyageur, Randy Romero; Easy Goer, and Roi Danzig, Eddie Maple. All starters will carry 126 pounds.
With six going, the value of the race will be $1,088,500; $653,100 will go to the winner. Distance is 1 1/4 miles, and post time Saturday is 2:43 p.m. PDT.
