Chris Sheff, who graduated from Laguna Hills High School in June, hit a two-run home run to lead the U.S. team to a 3-2 victory over Mexico Wednesday in the World Junior Baseball tournament at Trois-Rivieres, Canada.
Mexico was leading, 2-1, when Sheff homered in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The victory qualified the United States (4-0) for the medal round this weekend. The U.S. will play Taiwan (3-1) today to determine the Division-A champion.
Cuba (4-0), the Division-B champion, and Australia will be in the medal round with the U.S. and Taiwan.
