Santa Monica : School Meal Prices to Rise
- Share via
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education voted Monday to increase the price of school lunches this fall to offset an expected shortage of government surplus food.
The price of elementary school lunches will rise from $1.35 to $1.50; from $1.65 to $1.75 for secondary school lunches, and from $2 to $2.50 for adult lunches. Prices for prepaid lunches will remain $1.35 for elementary schools and $1.65 for secondary schools.
The district expects a 52% decrease in surplus cheese, fruits and other commodities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, said food-service consultant Alita E. Rethmeyer.
