Reward in Teacher’s Slaying Hits $60,000

Frustrated that a five-month police investigation has stalled, the widow of slain high school teacher Hal Arthur offered $10,000 Friday for information leading to a conviction in the killing, increasing the total reward in the case to $60,000.
Arthur, a popular teacher at Grant High School, was ambushed and shot to death with a semiautomatic weapon as he left his Sherman Oaks home for school March 24.
“My husband believed ‘right was might,’ and his family will stand up and fight for justice,” Virginia Arthur said.
Her contribution was matched by state Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Tarzana), who donated $10,000 from campaign funds. Contributions of $5,000 each were announced Friday by Wayne Johnson, president of United Teachers-Los Angeles, and Los Angeles school board member Roberta Weintraub.
Los Angeles Police Lt. Dennis Dunn said he hopes the money will encourage anyone with information to come forward.
