A 26-year-old San Juan Capistrano woman died this morning when the car she was driving veered off the San Diego Freeway in Laguna Hills and rolled down an embankment.
Mary Acosta was reported dead on arrival at Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo at 12:20 a.m. today, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
According to witnesses, Acosta’s 1980 Honda Prelude was traveling south near the Oso Parkway exit at about 65 m.p.h. when it suddenly swerved three or four times, hit a telephone call box and plunged over the embankment into a 15- to 20-foot ravine. Acosta, who was alone in the car, was thrown from the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt, the CHP spokesman said.
