A former National Basketball Association player, known for his temper both on the court and off, pleaded not guilty Monday to theft charges involving adult videos and lingerie.
Marvin (Bad News) Barnes, 37, made his plea to Municipal Judge Richard J. Hanscom, who scheduled a preliminary hearing for Sept. 12.
Barnes, who played for the San Diego Clippers and several other NBA teams, is accused of stealing X-rated videos on July 29 and lingerie items the next night from an adult bookstore. He was arrested last Thursday.
Hanscom released Barnes on his own recognizance, even though the theft charges are felonies because of previous theft convictions. Barnes has also been convicted of three failure-to-appear charges.
