Pasadena City College student Derrick Wilson has won the KFAC “Guest Conductor” contest at last weekend’s final audition held at the Santa Monica Pier. Wilson, 37, will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 5. Conducting a recorded excerpt from Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony, Wilson, who is a music composition major, was selected over 150 KFAC listeners.
