Firefighters today quickly extinguished a blaze in a North Hollywood commercial building that was caused by an electrical problem, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The fire was reported in an unoccupied, one-story building in the 6300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard at 7:39 a.m., said Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo. The building housed vacant retail space and a mattress store. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, but flames damaged both areas. There were no reports of injuries.
Acevedo said a preliminary investigation determined that an electrical short in a light fixture near a mattress apparently ignited the fire. A damage estimate had not been made.
