The city of Pasadena and the Foothill Friends of Music will present the second annual Summer Music Festival on the steps of City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., beginning at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The event will be highlighted by a concert by the Pasadena Pops Orchestra at 7 p.m. It is free.
Last year, above, more than 1,000 people brought picnic dinners and sang along with the afternoon music, which this year will be provided by the Salvation Army Tabernacle Band, the First Baptist Church of Pasadena and the Pasadena Unified School District.
The orchestra is a consortium of 70 local professional musicians who also perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Long Beach Symphony. The musicians organized the orchestra last year to provide a forum for the enjoyment of popular and well-known classical music.
