Gang Gunfire Wounds Youth

A 16-year-old Santa Ana youth was shot in the arm Wednesday afternoon after three cars drove past him and shouted gang slogans, police said.

The teen-ager was standing in front of a house at the 3200 block of South Townsend Street in Santa Ana at about 3 p.m. when three cars filled with several people drove by and shouted the names of several gangs, according to Lt. Earl Porter.

He was then wounded when one or two shots were fired from one of the vehicles, Porter said. The youth was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. Porter said it is unknown whether the victim is a member of a gang.

The police do not have any suspects, Porter said. The weapon is believed to be a 9-millimeter handgun. The cars were described at two dark-colored Chevrolets and one gray import car.
