Junior Linebacker Whiting Quits Titan Football Team

Scott Whiting, a junior linebacker who was expected to start for Cal State Fullerton, has quit the team, Coach Gene Murphy said.
Whiting, 6-feet-3 and 230 pounds, played sparingly last season but had five tackles and a pass deflection in the spring game.
Murphy called Whiting’s resignation “personal” and said he quit Monday partly because of dissatisfaction with his playing time in a scrimmage Saturday during which numerous starters were held out. Nebojsa Sormaz and Shawn Forristall, both transfers, will compete for Whiting’s inside linebacker position, Murphy said. Russ Oleyer is the other starting inside linebacker on a defense that has only three returning starters.
