The Atlanta Braves traded Jim Acker, a relief pitcher, to Toronto for reliever Tony Castillo, and Paul Assenmacher, a relief pitcher, to the Chicago Cubs.
The Braves will get a player to be designated from the Blue Jays, and two players to be designated later from the Cubs. Atlanta called up reliever Mike Stanton and third baseman Ed Whited from its triple-A Richmond farm club to fill its roster.
The Cubs sent pitcher Joe Krae mer to Iowa, their triple A farm team, to make room for Assenmacher.
