Casualties of Film

As a Vietnam War veteran, I’m sure it must hurt other veterans also to see the script writers of the movie “Casualties of War” digging up all those old baby-killers-rapists-and-murderers charges that we have had to live with for so long (“DePalma’s Dark Victory,” Michael Wilmington’s Aug. 18 review).
How does a veteran tell a young son it wasn’t all that way? (After all, isn’t that Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn up there on the screen showing it did happen that way?)
I guess Wilmington was sort of right in saying “Vietnam combat veterans may be among those most moved” by the film. We might even cry a little.
