Traffic Surprise?

In your “At Home” (Aug. 20), Irvine resident Ed DeLeonardis believes the extension of Alton Parkway and its general increase in surface street traffic “has caught some planners and politicians by surprise.” He should more carefully scrutinize the impact of future road extensions.
If Irvine officials are indeed “surprised” by this increase in traffic, I suggest that Mr. DeLeonardis consult with city “planners” about traffic mitigation procedures for travel to Koll Center, the emerging Spectrum Industrial Complex and the recently approved Park Place development.
With south county freeways already beyond capacity, this commuter to Irvine is not left many “alternativers.”
