World University Games : U.S. Gains Basketball Semifinals

DUISBURG, West Germany — The United States basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the World University Games, beating Israel, 104-79, Saturday.
The United States will play West Germany and Canada will play the Soviet Union in the semifinals Monday. West Germany beat Brazil, 117-92; Canada defeated Yugoslavia, 117-99, and the Soviet Union beat Cuba, 103-86.
Andre Cason gave the United States its first gold medal, winning the men’s 100 meters in 10.29 seconds.
