One Santa Ana man died and a second was injured in a hit-run accident early this morning after a car rammed into a motorcycle, police said.
Autro Armando Ramirez, 21, a passenger on the motorcycle, died at the scene in the 1800 block of West First Street, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said. The cycle driver, Jaime Nunez, 21, is in fair condition with a fractured leg and internal injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said a 1972 Ford Maverick rammed into the cycle as it was driving east on West First Street about 1:40 a.m., tossing both Ramirez and Nunez onto the street.
Neither man was wearing a helmet, Thomas said.
The car’s driver left his car at the scene and ran, she said. Three hours later, police arrested Salvadore Munguia Ramirez, 22, of Santa Ana in connection with the accident. Ramirez, no relation to the victim, was booked on charges of felony hit-run and vehicular homicide.
