Fred Jacoby, Southwest Conference commissioner, was in critical but stable condition at a Dallas hospital awaiting a heart transplant. Jacoby, 61, has been on the transplant list since May after tests revealed that he had suffered congestive heart failure.
Jacoby’s heart condition worsened Saturday and he was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. Jacoby has been moved to an urgent status on the waiting list.
Jacoby is chairman of the national letter of intent program and is a past president of the Collegiate Commissioners Assn. He was Mid-American Conference commissioner for 11 years before joining the SWC.
