Two women killed in a two-car collision Monday night on Santiago Canyon Road have been identified as Maria Tapia-Cruz, 23, of Tustin, and Janice Muth, 42, of Orange, authorities said Tuesday.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Keith Thornhill said the women were killed when a 1987 Dodge Colt, being driven north by Tapia-Cruz, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 1989 Nissan 240SX, driven by Muth, head-on. Both women were alone in their cars.
Tapia-Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Muth was pronounced dead at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, the CHP reported.
Santiago Canyon Road was closed for nearly three hours Monday night as a result of the accident, which happened about 7:10 p.m. one mile southeast of Chapman Avenue, Thornhill said.
