170 East Germans Slip Into Austria

VIENNA — About 170 East Germans escaped to Austria during the night in a further exodus of refugees using Hungary as a springboard to the West, Red Cross officials said Tuesday.
Sixty of them reported at Bonn’s embassy in Vienna for transfer to West Germany.
Most of the refugees crossed the border in clusters of five to 10 people rather than in the larger groups that fled to Austria before Hungary tightened border controls last week, the Red Cross said.
