More than $122,000 collected in memory of the 47 sailors who died in the April 19 explosion aboard the battleship Iowa should be received by the families next week, the fund’s founder said. Each family will receive about $2,600 from the Battleship Iowa Memorial Fund, which was created by the Norfolk, Va., office of the brokerage firm Shearson Lehman Hutton shortly after the disaster. Four of the families have asked for their shares to be donated to a second Iowa fund for needy widows and children of the dead sailors. The fund is still accepting donations and will distribute money based on need.
