I sometimes find it helpful to imagine a reversal of roles in troublesome questions relating to gender. Imagine this: The police dispatcher who received Maria Navarro’s emergency call, the patrol units on call that night and their supervisor were all formerly battered women. Now imagine what the response would have been.
