Man, 74, Slain; Wife, 73, Arrested

A 73-year-old woman was in custody on suspicion of shooting to death her 74-year-old husband in their La Mirada home Monday.
Mildred Marie Johnson was being held without bail at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Norwalk station jail, where she was booked in the murder of Alfred Perry Johnson, said Deputy Bill Wehner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Johnson telephoned a family member in Torrance about 6:45 a.m. to report that she had just shot and killed her husband, Wehner said. The relatives notified the Norwalk sheriff’s station, and deputies were met outside by Mrs. Johnson when they arrived at the house at in the 11900 block of La Cima Drive. Deputies found Johnson’s body in a downstairs bedroom and a handgun in another room of the house, Wehner said. A motive for the slaying has not been determined.
