A Visalia man was fatally injured when a car struck him as he walked across a road in the Val Verde area northwest of Santa Clarita, authorities said.
Felix Barrera, 38, had been driving a pickup truck on the Golden State Freeway near Hasley Canyon Road when the vehicle broke down about 10 p.m. Saturday, said California Highway Patrol Officer N. A. Vite. Barrera parked the truck on the center divider and crossed the freeway, Vite said.
He was struck as he tried to cross The Old Road, which runs parallel to the southbound Golden State Freeway.
Barrera was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he died a short time later, Vite said. The driver of the car was not cited.
