Cal State Long Beach Is Routed by Rainbows in Hawaii, 63-10

HONOLULU — Jamal Farmer and Chris Roscoe scored two touchdowns each as Hawaii trounced Cal State Long Beach, 63-10, here Saturday night in a nonconference game.

The 63 points were the most scored by the Rainbows (2-0) since they scored 65 in a victory over Prairie View in 1979. It was the most points scored against Long Beach (1-1) since 1956.

Farmer’s two rushing touchdowns helped Hawaii take a 28-3 halftime lead.

Hawaii’s first score was set up by a 49er fumble recovered by Gavin Robertson at the Long Beach 13. Farmer scored four plays later on a four-yard run.

As time ran out in the half, Long Beach’s Gene Lemmers tied a school record by kicking a 55-yard field goal.

Hawaii scored five second-half touchdowns on Mike Coulson’s 48-yard interception return, Gabriel’s 30-yard pass to Roscoe, Clayton Mahuka’s 10-yard run, Jeff Sydner’s 79-yard punt return and Ken Niumatalolo’s one-yard run.
