Quality of Care at King Hospital
Congratulations to Claire Spiegel for article (Sept. 3) describing emergency care services at King Hospital. The comments and observations made were as thoughtful, penetrating and informative as they were disturbing.
The availability of quality emergency care for the indigent and uninsured patients in our midst is becoming increasingly non-existent, with the burden of this care falling more and more to facilities least able, in terms of clinical expertise and resources, to accept it.
As a final thought, would it not have been more reasonable to compare the King emergency room mortality data with that of a front-line combat medical unit, rather than with other county medical centers in less strife-torn areas?
